Brent Thomas Brady, a man of adventure, kindness, and quiet strength, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and dogs. He was 78.
Born in Boise, Idaho, on April 4, 1947, to Dorothy and Emmett Brady, Brent lived a life full of passion and purpose. He graduated Borah High School in 1965. After serving his country in Vietnam, he pursued higher education, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of the Pacific in 1982. He continued with his own dental practice until 2012, known by his patients for his fun, laid-back demeanor and his kindness, often giving free/subsidized dental care to those in need.
Brent’s spirit thrived in the great outdoors. He worked as a land surveyor for the construction of Bogus Basin's original Superior chairlift in the 1964-1965, and represented Team USA as a Junior Olympian in skiing, showcasing his athleticism and love for nature. A pioneer in Idaho's rafting and kayaking community, Brent was among the first river patrol officers of Salmon-Challis National Forest. He also played a large role in introducing kayaking to the Boise community in the 1970s, offering rolling lessons at the South Jr High pool and guided trips on the Payette, Boise, and Bruneau rivers on the weekends. Later in life, he found joy in sailing, particularly in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, where he embraced the freedom of the open sea. While the sea and the slopes brought him joy, the river was his calling. His favorite days were always those spent on the Salmon River with big rapids, good friends, and cold beverages.
A loyal husband, father, and friend, Brent forged deep connections with countless people throughout his life. He will be remembered for his ambition, adventurous spirit, and the profound impact he had on everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. The river may carry him from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Brent lives on through his wife Nancy, his brother Terry, his 3 children, Andi, Danny, and Brent Junior, and his 4 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held later this year for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Idaho Rivers United or the Musella Foundation in his honor.
