Beverly Smith (née Campbell} passed away at the age of 80 in her home on May 9, 2020 in Boise, Idaho.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 60 years, D. Cary Smith, daughter Kelley Smith, son Kurtis (Renee) Smith, sister Rogene (Ron) Evans, brother Rick (Penny) Campbell, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Floy Campbell, in-laws Delbert and Josephine Smith, Brother Leo (& Carol) Campbell, sister Delpha (& Robert) Van Komen, toddler brother Max Campbell, sister-in-law Myrna (& Dave) Kallas, niece Cindy Van Komen Dean and nephew Robby Van Komen.
Beverly was born on April 7, 1940 at Booth Memorial Home in Boise. She attended grade schools and West Junior High in Boise until her family moved to Cambridge, ID in January of 1956 where her father worked construction on the Hells Canyon Dams. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958. Beverly met Cary in 1958 when she and a friend had a flat tire and were helped by Cary and a friend. Beverly moved back to Boise after high school graduation. She graduated from Excelsis (Lady Catherine’s) Beauty School and obtained her cosmetology license that she maintained for 61 years. Chance would have it that Cary’s job moved to Boise and Beverly and Cary dated and were soon engaged. They married on August 29, 1959.
Beverly worked in cosmetology for a short time before and after marriage. Children came soon and she devoted time to family. Later she owned and operated A & B Paperbacks in Boise for over 30 years. She loved books and her customers. She loved her German Shepherd companion dogs. Raven, Shadow, and Molly are gone but not forgotten. Gracie is here to watch over Cary.
Beverly was an advocate for victims’ rights and helpful in passing the Idaho Victims’ Rights Amendment.
Beverly was first a child of God. She never doubted her faith. She was a life-long member of Whitney Friends Church and treasured her church family.
Beverly had her first melanoma excision in 1998. In 2019, the disease returned and in spite of aggressive treatment and all of the devoted care of Cary, she left us to join her heavenly Father on May 9, 2020.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Whitney Friends Church in Boise. Physical distancing will be respected, and masks will be required.
The family would like to thank Dr. Randall Burr for taking such great care of Beverly. Also, Saint Luke’s Hospice, especially Katie, Renee and Aethena.
