It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Alice West-Dorny, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother on December 9, 2022 in Meridian, Idaho.  After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she died peacefully in her sleep.  She was 79 years old.

Beverly was born on April 7, 1943 to Joseph and Hazel Berry. She lived in Provo, Utah with her parents and younger sister, ReNee. Beverly graduated from Provo High School in 1961. Directly after high school, Beverly attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Speaking and Drama and a minor in English.   In 1968, she was awarded a Master’s degree from BYU Provo in Public Address and a minor in Political Science.  In college, she joined clubs representing her interests in debate, drama, speech, and political science.

Teaching quickly became her life’s work and she started teaching for the Provo School District in 1966.  She continued teaching, even while her children were young by occasionally substituting in the local school district.  After her children were older, she became a full-time teacher for High School and Community College.

Beverly has always had an interest in the arts, more specifically watercolor painting. Later in life, she taught art classes and continued to paint, displaying her art at small local galleries, county fairs, and local museums in California.  Many of her friends and family members have been blessed to have her paintings hanging on the walls of their homes.

In 1970, she married Calvin William West. They lived in San Jose, California and had their two boys, Matthew and Ryan, and their daughter, Emily while living there.  In 1977, they moved their family to Livermore, California.  A fourth child, Eric was born 2 years later to complete their family.  In 1989, Beverly was widowed when Calvin passed away due to complications from a car accident and she was left with four children to raise on her own.

On New Year’s Eve in 1993, Beverly met her future second husband, Dennis Dorny, at a dance for single adults.  They married in the Fall of 1994 and lived in Valley Springs, CA until Dennis passed away from a prolonged illness after 16 years of marriage.

Two years later, Beverly moved to Meridian, Idaho to be closer to her daughter, Emily.  She enjoyed living down the street so she could easily visit her young grandchildren.

Beverly is survived by her four children and their spouses, Matthew (Nicole) West of Lehi, UT, Ryan (Emily) West of Belton, TX, Emily (Daryl) Donnelly of Meridian, ID, and Eric (Kelly) West of Roseville, CA. Her sister, ReNee (Dondavid) Powell of Rexburg, ID.  Her stepchildren, Todd Dorny of Koloa, HI, Blithe (Laird) Small of Oakley, UT, John (Tamara) Dorny of Spanish Fork, UT, Clinton (Stacia) Dorny of Mapleton, UT, and Clayton (Gina) Dorny of Colorado Springs, CO. Her 11 grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren.
