Barton E. Lyons
Barton Edwin Lyons, 90, passed away on April 21, 2024 where he resided at Foxtail Senior Living in Eagle, Idaho.
Barton was born March 23, 1934 in Burley, Idaho, the son of Ivan and Ruth Lyons, the fifth of seven children. He lived his childhood in Burley, only leaving for about one year when his father took a short term job in Nevada.
Barton began working at a young age mowing lawns with a push lawn mower then after the 6 th grade he would wake up at 3:00am to help his uncle Jess deliver milk for Young’s Dairy. In the 11 th grade, he also delivered milk to stores in Declo and Burley. While working and attending school he was also on the track team and the manager for the high school basketball team, keeping an eye on one particular twirler in the background named Kareena. Barton graduated from Burley High School in 1952. In February 1953, he was drafted, serving in the army during the Korean War. His basic training was at Camp Roberts, CA then he served in Germany for 17 months. He worked as a grease monkey and became an expert at finding much needed military vehicle parts. Because of his typing skills, he was also able to do office work. He was honorably discharged in February of 1955, receiving 3 medals for his service. After returning home he worked for his father building homes until he was hired by the Telephone Company January 1, 1956. He worked multiple positions including working as a lineman, Idaho Customer Service Relations Supervisor, Service Bureau Supervisor and Financial Analysis Administrator until retiring in March of 1987.
In May of 1957, Barton married Kareena Lee Evans in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in Twin Falls, Pocatello and then Boise, Idaho. They had two children quickly and after adding twins, he began a second job working for the Vista Beverage where he worked for 8 years. After retiring, Barton became a loving caregiver for the Fleming and Butterfield families for 19 years. Barton was also active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a stake clerk for 5 years then a ward clerk for 50 years. He served under 11 bishops and was just released in the fall of 2023. Barton and Kareena lived in two homes on Cherry Lane for over 63 years. They moved to Foxtail Senior Living when their health declined and learned to love the people that lived there, and those who cared for them.
Barton enjoyed yardwork, landscaping, hiking, bowling, playing and watching softball, walking and riding bikes on the greenbelt, floating the Boise River, fishing and snowmobiling at Magic Reservoir, spending weekends in Burley, taking grandkids to Camels Back Park, driving grandkids to and from Utah, collecting rocks in Idaho City, card and coin collecting, working with ceramics, wood working, watching football and basketball, listening to music, watching movies, eating at Hanks La Fiesta, visiting neighbors, makings lists, collecting books, was an avid reader and a die hard BYU fan. He is well known for making caramel corn, and buying Idaho Spud rejects from the Idaho Candy Company, having Snoopy up at Christmastime, the deer in their beautiful backyard and his 1960 Thunderbird parked in the carport. He was hardworking, meticulous, dependable, honest, lovable and kind. He was a loving husband, a perfect father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and loving friend to all.
Survivors include his brother, Lamont Lyons, Boise, ID; daughter, Kareena Ann (Michael) Hallmark, Boise, ID; son, Barton Fred (Sherece) Lyons, Mesa, AZ; twins: daughter, Tamara K (Rock) Didericksen, Middleton, ID; son, Thomas E. (Rebecca) Lyons, Reno NV. They currently have 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, with one on the way and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kareena Lee Lyons; parents, Ivan and Ruth Lyons and 5 siblings.
