Barbara Jean Miller

November 18, 1939 — August 20, 2025

Eagle

Barbara Jean Miller (born Barbara Jean Glass; also known as Barbara Thompkins, Barbara Martin, and Barbara Crew) passed away at 6:08 a.m. on August 20, 2025, in Eagle, Idaho. She was 85 years old. Note that Miller was her mother's maiden name.

Barbara was born in Columbus, OH, on November 18, 1939, to Fredrick & Dorothy Glass. Barbara would later move with her father to Florida and end up in California. Barbara attended boarding schools in Southern California and then eventually moved to Northern California and attended high school in Santa Rosa and Eureka, California, in the 1950s. She married (Jack Thompkins) shortly after high school and had her first two children, Doug and Debi. She relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she remarried (Doug Martin) and had her third child, Dean. She spent the majority of her life in San Jose and Campbell, California, until her retirement. In 2002, Barbara moved to Southern California to be near her daughter, Debi, and grandson, Madison, and purchased a home in Yucca Valley.

Barbara had a career in the printing industry, running presses and working with high-end reproduction or copy machines, producing technical publications for Tech companies. Interesting fact: She worked at TV Guide for many years, as well as the Yellow Pages, and later at Xerox, where she ultimately retired.

After retiring, she devoted herself to her adopted Shitzu dogs (4 dogs over 20 years), knitting, and the friends she met in her knitting club. After moving many times in her childhood and adult life, she ended up having the longest residence (20 years) in her home in Yucca Valley. She loved living in the desert.

Barbara is survived by her three children: Doug Thompkins and his wife, Ajmir; Debi Thompkins-Neisius; and Dean Martin and his wife, Melissa. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive her. Barbara was loved by many, and she will be dearly missed.
