Barbara “Jean” Dawson (nee: Shand), 93, of Boise, passed away July 19, 2021. Jean was born on September 28, 1927, in Manti, Utah to parents Grace Ventris and Clyde Shand.
Jean graduated from Springville High School in Utah. She attended Washington State in Pullman, Whitworth College in Spokane, and earned a teaching degree from Eastern Washington College of Education. She received a master’s degree in Christian Education from The Biblical Seminary of New York. In preparation for her chosen career of being a Missionary / Linguist to other countries, she attended the Summer Institute of Linguistics training course held at the University of North Dakota. Jean later helped to teach that course to others.
She married Francis Burton Dawson in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1977 and immediately inherited 5 stepchildren.
Jean was known for her gracious loving kindness, willingness to help others, and passion for her Christian work in bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who would listen, she spent many years working overseas in places like the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. She did Bible translation, but her passion was always teaching. She helped make primers for teachers to use in elementary education, taught ESL to foreign college students, and prepared many Sunday School teachers books.
She is survived by her spouse of 44 years, Francis “Bus” Dawson and sister Yvonne Shand. Jean has 4 nieces, 5 stepchildren and many grand and great grandkids.
She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, 3 sisters, many relatives, friends, and co-workers who preceded her to Glory.
The internment will be August 4, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. The service will be conducted by her family with grandson Pastor Andrew Luedtke officiating.
She will be missed by all who knew her and had the opportunity work with her. Rest in Peace.
