Obituary

Barbara Ellen Bird passed away peacefully at her home on April 4, 2026, from natural causes. She was surrounded by her family and the comfort of familiar surroundings.

Barbara was the second daughter born to Thomas and Antoinette “Nettie” Manzo on October 20, 1946, in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Barbara was a graduate of Saddle Brook High School.

On a spontaneous trip to Florida, Barbara met the love of her life, Thomas Bird. They married in October 1975, beginning a devoted partnership that would span more than five decades.

Together, Barbara and Tom set out on a new journey to Idaho where Barbara began her path into motherhood helping to raise Tom’s first daughter, Julie. In 1978, Barbara and Tom welcomed their daughter Megan, followed by their daughter Mariel in 1980. Soon after, Barbara’s parents and sister joined the family in Idaho.

Barbara’s professional life was deeply rooted in her faith and service to others. Her career began at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, where she served as CCW President and Treasurer, as well as Treasurer for the Southwest Deanery. She later worked part‑time at the First Interstate Data Center and at the Roman Catholic Diocese Chancery Office, where she served as the Bishop’s part‑time secretary. She transitioned into the role of full‑time Secretary to the Bishop, a position she faithfully held for the next 21 years. During this time, Barbara devoted herself to serving God and those around her. She became the historical memory of the Chancery, known for her commitment to the Church and its mission. Barbara retired on December 31, 2011, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and kindness.

Barbara is survived by her husband Thomas; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Jeff Tiddy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Megan and Ryan Lutz, and Mariel Bird and Alex Zoldan; stepdaughter Julie Bird; and her two granddaughters Avery Jones and Nettie Zoldan. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass will be celebrated in her honor on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. A reception will follow immediately thereafter. The family invites all who knew and loved Barbara to join them in celebrating her life. All are also welcome to accompany the family to Morris Hill Cemetery for her burial at 3:00 p.m.
