Dick passed away peacefully after a long illness on December 16, 2023. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 30, 1932 to the late Sam and Florence Dickstein.
Dick had a lifelong passion for airplanes and was part of the B-36 crew in the Air Force before embarking on a 38 year long flying career with American Airlines. He met and married his wife, Shirley Gies, in Spokane Washington and the couple just celebrated their 70
th
wedding anniversary on October 25, 2023.
After his retirement from American Airlines, Dick pursued a second career by founding Glenview Development in Las Vegas, building over 500 homes.
After retiring from Glenview at age 65, Dick fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a winery. He and Shirley moved to Parma, ID and bought 7 acres overlooking the Boise River where they established Parma Ridge Vineyards. Dick took classes at UC Davis to learn the art of winemaking and ran the entire operation from planting and nurturing the vines to making the wine.
Dick continued his love of flying well into his retirement, owning a small airplane and going on many adventures across the country with Shirley. In 2007 Dick received The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award from the FAA for 50 years of safe flying.
Dick and Shirley had a passion for international travel and visited all 7 continents.
Dick is survived by his wife Shirley; 3 daughters, Terri Szostek (Steven) of Port Orchard, WA, Debra Boseck (Gary) of San Carlos, CA and Lori Roth (Micky) of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister Marsha McLean (Dale) of Newhall, CA and a brother Jeffrey Dickstein of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Keystone Hospice and all of his caregivers. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring.
In lieu of flowers, Dick’s favorite charities were St. Jude’s Hospital for Children and the Muscular Dystrophy Society.
