Angie Dunaway was born May 27, 1946 on Soijakdo island off the coast of Incheon, South Korea and grew up in a small fishing village with few modern amenities. She worked hard helping to raise her younger siblings and took pride in being one of few to graduate high school. As a stunningly beautiful and intelligent young adult, she met an American soldier who became the love of her life. She sacrificed everything she knew in Korea to immigrate and build a new life and start a family in the United States. She was incredibly proud of becoming an American citizen.
Angie successfully raised two kind, strong, resilient children in a country that was completely new to her while supporting her husband’s career. She appreciated beauty, cleanliness, and the finer things in life. Angie’s commitment to her marriage was remarkable, encompassing 50 years until her husband passed away. That loss was devastating and altered her perspective on life, but resulted in a closer relationship with her children, and a strengthening of her faith.
John 14:27
“ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ”
Love is profound, complex, and sometimes enveloped in mystery and paradox. Angie loved deeply in her own way amidst the pull of very different cultural influences. She was able to revisit Soijakdo with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter in 2023, reconnecting with her brothers and sisters after 40 years of separation. It was a truly special and joyous time.
Angie Dunaway passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025 at Grace Memory Care in Boise, Idaho with immediate family by her side. Angie was preceded in death by her parents, multiple siblings, and beloved husband Randy. She is survived by her son Andrew (Laura), daughter Suzanne (Michael), five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, as well as two brothers and two sisters in Korea.
