Albert “Butch” Thomas Hickok of Eagle, Idaho, passed away on August 10, 2023, at the age of 78. A short service will be held on Friday, September 1st, at 2:00 PM, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
Al was born in Caldwell, Idaho on June 26, 1945, to Harlo and Beatrice Hickok. He went on to serve his country by enlisting in the Navy in the summer of 1962 where he served as a machinist’s mate aboard the USS Gunston Hall, an LSD class ship used to support the troops during the Vietnam war. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1966, Al started working for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked in section gangs, as a track inspector, and as a section foreman. He retired from the railroad in 2005 at the age of 60.
Al married Bonnie L. Curry on August 31, 1968, and they were blessed with two boys, Michael and David. Al passed along his passion for hunting and fishing to his sons, as well as his colorful vocabulary while busting his knuckles turning wrenches on the family automobiles.
Al met his longtime companion, Kris Fillmore, in 2004, they spent their retirement years traveling to different states, spending their summers in Sumpter, Oregon, and their winters in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and multiple siblings. He is survived by his spouse, companion, children and grandchildren.
