VENICE GOSSARD

February 26, 1929 ~ February 6, 2019 (age 89)

Venice Gossard (Mom) was born on February 26, 1929, in Henrieville, Utah to Marie Smith and Elijah Goulding. She moved to St. Anthony, Idaho when she was a year old and spent 8 happy years with Marie’s large and loving family.

Marie remarried and they moved to Lima, Ohio. Marie had 3 more children, Mom’s siblings, Billie, Johnny and Jeff.

After graduating from high school, Mom had the opportunity to go help her Aunt Dot, who had 4 small children and was living in San Diego. Mom was fond of saying that she boarded the bus, leaving Ohio in a snowstorm and arrived in beautiful San Diego 4 days later and she never looked back.

A year after her arrival she met a young sailor named Charles (Chuck) Gossard and they married on August 27, 1948.  While Mom was pregnant with her first child and Dad was away at sea, it was decided that Mom should go to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and live with Dad’s family. She fell in love with the Gossard’s and they, with her.  It was a good thing she was there because she was very sick during this first pregnancy. Mom and Dad were blessed with Charles Michael (Goose) Gossard on July 22, 1949.

Over the next 20 years, Mom moved often and she had 3 more children, Laurence (Larry), Pamela (Pam) and Melanie.  Mom said often that her greatest role and biggest gift in life was being Mom to her 4 children. We were blessed with the most loving, compassionate and amazing Mother.

When Dad retired, we all moved back to Idaho to be closer to Mom’s mother & family. We all feel so blessed to have returned to Idaho and call Boise our home.

Mom worked happily as the Office Manager at Grover’s Pay and Pack for 23 years. One of Mom’s greatest joys was her retirement gift of a hot air balloon ride, during the Boise River Festival.

After retiring Mom enjoyed travelling with her good friend Azalee Cooper, walking at the mall with friends, reading, working in her garden (she was always a fabulous cook) and she helped raise her beloved granddaughter Michelle Buker.

When Pam married, Mom inherited 3 more lovely granddaughters, Kylan, Annie & Teagan and adopted Mike & Arlene Barrie. Mom had a huge heart and loved her nickname, “Mother Goose”.

Mom was preceded in death by her mother Marie, her beloved son Mike, her brother Johnny and by many Aunts & Uncles.

We would like to thank all of the staff at Hillcrest Retirement for taking great care of “Mom”, especially Dajia and Ceirra.

She left us with this message: Love doesn’t die – people do.

You are forever in our hearts Mom, you were the best Mother we could ever ask for and we love you! Enjoy being with Mike until we are all together again.

With Love, Larry, Pam & Melanie

There will be a Celebration of Life on February 26, 2019, 10 am at Bowman Funeral Parlor, Garden City.
