Sherry Exley, age 71 of Meridian, Idaho passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018.  She entered heaven about the same time she would normally be entering church to listen to the organ prelude music.

Sherry was born in Riverton, Wyoming and remained there until graduation from Riverton High School in 1965.  That year she moved to Idaho following her parents Lou and Vi Drake and met Dwayne “Dudley” Exley through shared friends at their church.  Dwayne and Sherry were married in the fall of 1966 and immediately moved to Fort Lewis Washington for two years of Army life.

Sherry moved back to Nampa, Idaho in 1968, and with her husband became very involved in church at Nampa First Assembly of God.  Several life-long relationships came from the many years attending this church, blessing her with multiple generations of family and friends.

Shortly after returning to Idaho, Sherry started working at Grange Mutual Life in Nampa, where she worked for 35 years in various roles through the company’s evolution to United Heritage and move to Meridian.  Working, break table discussions, and return visits even after retirement demonstrate her ability to both labor and laugh with the amazing group of people she enjoyed there.

In 1970 Sherry began playing piano and singing gospel music in The King’s Witnesses.  Initially she did not prefer the type of music they performed, but the outlet for music and ministry blossomed into a passion she would be involved with for the remainder of her life.  Through the years the group performed for thousands of people and recorded 16 albums; but most importantly to Sherry, expressed God’s love through music.  Her piano playing, alto harmony and organization skills were key ingredients for sustaining this ministry for so many years.

In 2009 Sherry retired from United Heritage and adopted a lifestyle of travel.  She and Dudley purchased a small Casita trailer and began touring, eventually visiting every National Park outside of Alaska.  But the borders of the U.S. did not contain her as she enjoyed trips to Israel, across Europe, the Galapagos Islands, Machu Pichu, China and a 48-day cruise to the South Pacific.

Sherry is survived by her husband Dwayne of Meridian, Idaho; her son and daughter-in-law Dustin and Tracy Exley of Portland, Oregon; her son and daughter-in-law Damon and Neev Exley of Manassas, Virginia and their 3 children Henna, Zara and Roman.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene located at 150 W. Maestra St., Meridian, ID 83642.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
