Leon Eugene Goodman
Leon Goodman passed away November 26, 2017 in Eagle, Idaho of natural causes, just shy of 98 years old. He was born in Meadows, Idaho on December 11, 1919 and raised in McCall by his parents Austin and Lula Goodman, the third of three boys.
Leon’s youth was spent in McCall skiing, boating, and flying airplanes with his brother, Don. It was at this time he met his future wife in high school, Evelyn Shaw.
He got his draft notice on his 18th birthday and joined the Army, 10th Mountain Division, Ski Troops. With their unique abilities with skiing and mountain climbing, this group of men made important advances in Italy. When the war ended Leon returned to marry his beloved Evelyn on June 26, 1946.
After the war, Leon was on the US Ski Team and enjoyed teaching skiing in Sun Valley. He and Evelyn built their home, one of the first homes on Warm Springs Road, and their four children were born in the Lodge: Peter, Penny, Bob, and Denny.
In 1960 Leon and family moved to Gooding where they opened a bowling alley, continuing to go to Sun Valley on the weekends. Leon and Evelyn retired from the bowling business when he was 75.
The most important things in Leon’s life were his family, his friends, skiing, flying, and bowling.
Leon always had a sparkle in his eyes and a story to tell. He was a mentor to his children and their friends. His advice was always right on and he had a knack for knowing just what to say.
Truly a Good Man.
We are going to be getting together to celebrate the life of Leon Goodman and hope you can join us for all or part. We’ll have light refreshments, and we can all share memories and stories, much like Dad is telling stories in the pictures below.
