Julian "Joe" S. Godsey

October 17, 1937 ~ September 8, 2018 (age 80)

Julian S. “Joe” Godsey, 80, died Saturday September 8, 2018 in a local hospital. Julian was born October 17, 1937 in Richmond, VA to parents, Arlene and Julian Godsey. Julian and his only sibling, older sister, Joan had a great early childhood with lots of good friends and great neighbors.

When Julian was just 12 years old his father was killed while defending a friend in a fight. Julian would take a streetcar to Capitol Market where he would learn to be a meat cutter to help support the family.

At the age of 15 while working a job in South Dakota, Julian met Julia Rogers whom he married on September 16, 1954.  There were together 38 years before her death from cancer in March 1993. Julian and Julian had four children, Julian Jr. Terri, Eddie and Wendi.

After Julia’s death, Julian married Marium Salisbury in October 1993, and gained three additional daughters, Rochelle, Rachel and Roselle.

Julian was a well-known breeder of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers throughout the 60’s and 70’s. He was especially fond of one named Aleutian Duke who he sold to Joe Albertson… he always regretted that sale.

Julian and his best friend, Red Amburn, founded the Meridian Chapter of Ducks Unlimited in 1980.

Julian began his career as a pipe fitter in 1956. He served as a Lay Minister to St Stephens Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Idaho for over 20 years and was proud to have been a Mason and Shriner for 32 years.

Julian loved fishing, hunting, playing poker, fast cars, good whiskey, and cold beer.

Julian was preceded in death by “Blondie”, his parents Arlene and Julian, brother-in-law, Merle Louck, and many fishing buddies.

Julian is survived by his wife, Marium, sister Joan Fisher, his children Julian, (Charlotte), Terri (Aaron), Eddie (Shannon), Wendi (Randy), Rochelle, Rachel, Roselle (Mike).
