Jeffrey J. Westenhaver

March 9, 1950 ~ April 29, 2018 (age 68)

On Sunday, April 29th, 2018, we lost an incredible man, Jeffrey James Westenhaver.

Jeff was a wonderful husband, father, Papa, brother and friend who will be missed dearly.  He was a fighter and overcame many fierce battles in his life before meeting this one that was just too great to conquer.

He was born on March 9th 1950, in Long Beach, California, where he grew up riding bikes and surfing with his brothers and friends.  As a young adult, he moved to McCall, Idaho, where he became an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.  Jeff also had a love for dirt biking and spent time racing in his early days.

He moved to the Treasure Valley in the 1990’s where he exemplified his strong work ethic and integrity, working for a couple of different plumbing companies before starting his own business, Westwind Plumbing.  It was through plumbing that he met the love of his life, Janice.

Jeff developed a great passion for the game of golf, which he played often with his dear friends.

He had a keen sense of humor which came out especially when he was around his siblings, while telling stories of their youth.  Jeff was fond of pirates and as a kid, he and his brother, Barry, dressed up as pirates which he carried into his Halloween traditions as an adult.

Being a father was something he was not only proud of, but did exceptionally well.  He showed love and compassion and offered sound advice when needed.  He was a great listener, teacher and friend.  He also chose to be an amazing step father, which he did with such kindness and open arms.  Jeff also embraced the task of being an incredible grandfather.  His quiet and gentle spirit was evident as he interacted with his grandchildren, who all adored him.

His wife Janice shares, “the world could learn a thing or two about being the perfect husband.  Love is shown in deeds and acts of service, not necessarily in words. If I could turn back the clock, I would have found you sooner and loved you longer, but as I begin my healing journey without you, I will thank the Universe every day for giving me a husband as loving and wonderful as you”.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Janice; daughters Laurel Hersel (Jake) and Christy Westenhaver; brothers Don Westenhaver (Ellie) and Barry Westenhaver (Doneen); sister Lisa Woods (Gary); his step kids, Megann Dopp (Justin), Angela Wissel (Tim), Janell Billings (Kevin) and Steven Saxton (Julia) as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 19th from 2:00-6:00.  It will be an open house/pot luck at the home of Janice Westenhaver:  1491 E. Stormy Dr., Meridian, ID 83646.
