Jean-Patrick "Pat" Russell DeWane

February 17, 1983 ~ October 5, 2018 (age 35)

Jean-Patrick “Pat” Russell DeWane was born February 17, 1983 in Boise, Idaho. Due to complications of epilepsy, Patrick began his next journey on October 5, 2018.

Patrick was born to a family with undying love for him. From his first surgery at 4 ½ hours old, through a life with epilepsy, autism, and muscular dystrophy, Patrick fought hard to have a normal life.  He outlived all expectations of his doctors - from infancy, to toddlerhood, and adulthood. He not only surpassed all expectations but graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Biology.  He was an avid reader, a staunch believer in universal health care, protecting the environment, and an avid advocate for the underserved. Anyone who knew Patrick, knew he was slightly opinionated and was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in. His favorite repertoire of shirts included “Sarcastic comment loading, please wait” and “My opinion offended you? You should hear what I keep to myself.” Patrick always wanted to be a teacher and, in many ways, taught everyone around him the importance of tolerance.

He loved his family above all, and especially his nephews Willis, Leo, Eli, and Andrew. He was a beloved uncle by his nephews, who adored his playful spirit. Hunting, fishing, camping and boating with his dad were also times he treasured. He belonged to the Boise Bench Lions Club and SAE Fraternity.

Because of the unique circumstances of his death, Patrick provided a miracle to many others in need of organ donation. He donated all his organs and tissues, including his corneas, to the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank and the Idaho Oregon Sight and Hearing Foundation.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Frances and Willis “Bill” Hallock from Boise and Marilyn “Jean” and John “Larry” DeWane from Belvidere, Illinois.  He is survived by his parents Marian and John “Barry” DeWane of Boise, Idaho; his brother Jean-Paul “JP” DeWane and sons Willis and Leo of Dupont, WA; and his sister Jacqueline “Nikki” Baggs, her husband Eric, and their sons Eli and Andrew of Irvine, CA.

The family gives their sincerest thanks to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank, and the ICU care providers who helped take care of Patrick and provided comfort for the family in their time of deep despair.

A celebration of Patrick’s life for family and friends will be held October 13, 2018 from 3:00 PM -5:00 PM. at 6800 W. Fairfield Ave. in Boise and anyone who knew Pat is welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the GoFundMe being set up in Patrick’s name to cover memorial costs:
