James L. Porter, 66, of Meridian, Idaho died September 11, 2018 after a battle with cancer.
Jim was born on September 6, 1952 in Turlock, CA to Robert & Dorothy Porter. He spent his early years on a farm in Modesto, CA, and he had fond memories of his time there. He and his family moved to Russellville, AR in 1963 where he spent most of his adolescence. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1970. Shortly after graduating, Jim and family moved to Reno, NV where he made the decision to join the Marines and served 2 years at Camp Pendleton. After returning from the service, Jim moved to Sacramento, CA before settling in Boise in 1979.
Jim married Joni Weimer on August 8, 1980. They shared 38 great years together and raised two wonderful daughters, Lindsey and Whitney. Jim graduated from Boise State in 1982 with a degree in finance. He worked for Albertsons, Saint Alphonsus, and the US Postal Service the last 20 years of his life.
Jim enjoyed waterskiing, running, and traveling especially to Mexico with his family and friends. He had many great memories of those trips. He was also a devoted Boise State football fan and traveled to several of their out of state games. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He had a great sense of humor that showed through even in his final days.
Jim is survived by his wife Joni, daughters Lindsey (Eric) Nichols, Whitney (Jonny) Bush, grandchildren Gabriel and Amelia Bush and Isla Nichols, sister Ronna (David) Todd, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy, sister Robin, brother Ted, and twin sister Judy.
Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2 pm at Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Orr officiating.
