November 7, 1921 ~ October 27, 2018 (age 96)

Grace Carolyn Rice, born November 7, 1921 to George and Hilda Linne in Duluth, Minnesota, died on October 27, 2018 in Emmett, Idaho.

Grace lived and was educated in San Diego, CA, where she graduated from Herbert Hoover High School and San Diego State University. While in California, Grace met James (Jim) Francis Rice of Lewiston, ID. They were married on Dec 18, 1944 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Following Jim’s honorable discharge from the Army, the Rices lived in Lewiston and Moscow, ID, Ellensburg, WA, and then returned to Lewiston in June of 1959.

While in Lewiston, Grace was an active member of the Lewiston Golf and Country Club, recording three hole-in-ones over the years. In addition to many rounds of golf, Grace was an avid bridge player, logging many hours at the bridge table at the Club. She was the accountant for Inland Auto Glass for nearly 20 years, and volunteered numerous hours with local non-profit programs. Grace was a talented seamstress, in addition to being accomplished in crochet and needlepoint; she frequently made special orders for family, friends, and neighbors. Her other great love was the Seattle Mariners, whose televised games trumped any other kind of activity. Grace and Jim were big fans of the University of Idaho Vandals and attended nearly every home football game, rain or shine.  Grace moved to Boise, ID in 2010 to be closer to family.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. She is survived by two sons, Brad (Arleen) Rice of Walla Walla, WA and Randy (Carolyn) Rice of Boise, ID. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. By Grace’s request, there will be no funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the 2nd Judicial District CASA program in Lewiston, ID (www.district2casa.com) or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrf.org).
