Doris Elaine Rohde

June 7, 1929 – December 24, 2018

Doris Elaine Rohde, 89, passed away on Christmas Eve at an assisted living facility in Star, Idaho, with her family by her side.

She was born June 7, 1929 in Maddock, North Dakota to Etta and Lloyd Englar. She grew up in Minot, North Dakota. She had four siblings: Evelyn, Donny, Carol, and Connie. From an early age, Doris enjoyed playing the piano and singing in duets and trios.  She graduated from Minot High School and went to Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota, for one year and then returned to Devil’s Lake, ND. She then worked at the telephone company as a Switchboard Operator.

Harold Rohde was working as a lineman at the phone company and found himself making frequent visits to see the pretty switchboard operator. They were married at the Assembly of God Church in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota on August 12, 1951.

Harold and Doris raised their two children, Mark and Cathy, in New Rockford, North Dakota. They had many wonderful memories camping, taking trips, and serving others. Mark and Cathy recall their home always being open for a good meal and fellowship for anyone stopping by.

Doris worked as a school secretary in New Rockford in the 70’s, an Office Manager for Campbell Construction Company in the late 70’s and early ‘80s.  She also worked in Devils Lakes at the WIC Office and loved helping new mothers. She and Harold left their beloved North Dakota for Twin Falls, Idaho in 1987 to be closer to their two kids and grandchildren in Wyoming and Idaho.  In Twin Falls, Doris helped take care of her grandchildren and volunteered at the Lighthouse Christian School.

A few years before her death, Doris and her sister Connie worked on a special book of memories for Mark and Cathy. Her dedication states: “I am sharing memories from my heart. You were raised in a family of love for each other, animals, and those in need. Keep your faith in the Lord. When I arrive in Heaven, your Dad and I will be waiting for you and your family. As you read this book may you laugh and remember special memories to share forever.”

These documented memories will bring comfort and joy to the family in the coming years as we remember our mom, grandma, sister, and friend.

Doris is survived by her children, Mark (Julie) Rohde of Jackson, Wyoming, and Cathy (Jesse) Adams of Meridian, Idaho; her grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Tyrell, Rayme and Jaden; as well as ten great grandchildren.  Doris is also survived by her siblings, Evelyn (Arnold) Brown, of Maryland; Brother-In-Law, Dave Torgerson, of Tennessee Don (Eva) Englar, of Minnessota, and Connie Englar, of Idaho.  She is preceded in death by her parents, son in law, Patrick Muus,; husband, Harold Rohde; and sister, Carol Torgerson.

The family plans to schedule a celebration of life in the coming summer.
