Diana (Dede) Gruenberg, age 62, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2019, ending the battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born on October 19, 1956 in Oak Park, Illinois to David and Karen Massaro. She married the love of her life, Wesley (Wes) Gruenberg, Jr., on November 24, 1979. Dede and Wes raised their three children, Wesley III, Kirsten, and Gretchen initially in Oak Park, Illinois and subsequently, Lisle, Illinois. She attended Glenbard North High School and Illinois State University.
Dede enjoyed knitting, blogging, cooking, and a competitive game of Scrabble. Dede was most passionate about her role as a loving wife, mother, and “Gigi” to her granddaughters.
Dede began her career at British Airways in the reservation department in the Chicago Loop and ended it at O’Hare Airport in cargo sales. After the birth of their first child, Dede began her home based Discovery Toys business that lasted for more than 25 years. As a sales director, Dede mentored and trained many women; earning top ranks and numerous trips throughout her time with the company. Through Discovery Toys, Dede established many lifelong friendships. After ending her career with Discovery Toys, Dede wrote training materials for The Success Factory and the lia sophia jewelry corporate training department.
A devoted Christian, Dede was active in leadership in the Community Bible Study in Naperville, Illinois for seventeen years. After moving to Meridian, Idaho in late 2015, she became involved with the Summit Church women’s bible study group. Through bible study and her active participation in a writing group, Dede always looked for opportunities to pour into others the joy of the Lord. Through these activities, she developed many loving friendships, which have endured through time and distance.
Her favorite Bible verse, and one she was guided by, was Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Dede is survived by her husband, Wesley Gruenberg, Jr., her sisters, Susan Massaro and Lori (Jim) Dickens, her children, Wesley (Brigitta) Gruenberg III, Kirsten (Richard) Hughey, and Gretchen Gruenberg and her four granddaughters, Adelaide, Lola, Arya, and Esme. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Karen and David Massaro.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:30 AM at reSURGE Church, 936 Taylor Avenue in Meridian, Idaho 83642 and Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 3:30PM at the Vineyard Church of DuPage, 1900 Manchester Road in Wheaton, Illinois 60187.
