Denise L. Elwood

September 27, 1978 ~ September 19, 2018 (age 39)

Denise LuAnne Elwood, age 39, peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 19 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a vibrant, passionate, and spontaneous woman who loved unconditionally and lived a dedicated Christian life. She had a servant’s heart and desired to show God’s love to everyone she met, which began at home with her family. Denise’s life will be celebrated on her 40th birthday – Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Tree City Church, 3852 N. Eagle Road in Boise.

Denise was born on September 27, 1978 to her parents, Jerry and Mary Sienknecht in Meridian, Idaho.  She was the youngest of seven children and enjoyed the added attention of her older siblings.  Her childhood years were spent in Meridian where she attended Meridian Elementary, Meridian Middle and graduated from Meridian High School in 1996. She married Scott Elwood in 1999 and they moved to Twin Falls.

It was there where she first worked in daycare and found a joy working with small children.  That passion for children was found in her ministries of Vacation Bible School, Children’s Quizzing, Preschool Director, and Girl’s Camp director with her husband, Scott, at Trinity Pines in Cascade. She felt a call to ministry in her childhood and later sought to formalize that call with an education through Nazarene Bible College to become a children’s pastor. She obtained a local minister’s license and then her district minister’s license and was less than a year away from completing her college credits for certification.

After moving back to Meridian, Denise and Scott started a family and had 3 beautiful children, Kyla, Brianna, and Truett.  Raising her children was her greatest joy. She was able to be a stay at home mom for the first few years with the girls and home schooled them through their second grades. She was also a talented florist and shared those skills often even serving as the chairman on the decorating committee in her church. Her most recent job was with Horizon Airlines and was quickly promoted to a team captain.

Denise is survived by her loving husband, Scott and their three precious children, Kyla, Brianna, and Truett; her mother, Mary Sienknecht and father Jerry Sienknecht; her siblings, Doug Sienknecht , Deborah (Dan) Davidson, Dee Sienknecht , Dianne Donnelly, Dave (Caroline) Sienknecht, and Dawna (Brad) Kerbs. She is also survived by her mother and father- in- law, Terry and Delbert Elwood; and sisters-in-law Tami (George) Vavold, Shanda Doughman and Tressa (Matt) Willson along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Special thanks to family, friends, church family, work family and Keystone Hospice for tender care in these last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Denise’s honor to Trinity Pines Camps, 55 SW 5th Ave., Suite 100, Meridian, Idaho 83642.
