Colleen Anita Salyer
Our beloved mother, Colleen Anita Salyer, went to be with the Lord and our dad peacefully Tuesday, November 20, surrounded by family.
Colleen was born August 3, 1930, in Sterling, Colorado to Olin Albert and Velma Avis Castor. She grew up on a small farm in Buckingham, Colorado. She often shared her experiences of growing up on a farm and in a small community and how those experiences prepared her for adulthood. She also enjoyed her school years. She played school basketball, participated in 4H, wrote for the school newspapers, and graduated valedictorian of her senior class.
May 2, 1954, Colleen met the love of her life, Foy Paul Salyer, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. It must have been love at first sight given they dated only a few months before marrying. They lived in Sterling, Colorado while starting their family, moved to Oklahoma for a short period of time, and settled in Loveland, Colorado to raise their four children. Raising her children and taking care of Foy became her purpose in life. All those tasks that came with being a mother and wife were always done with a labor of love. Later in life Colleen loved the role of being “Mimi” to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the time she had with each of them. In 2016, she moved to Eagle, Idaho to live close to her family in Idaho.
Colleen was blessed with many gifts. She was an accomplished pianist, incredible seamstress, amazing cook, and an avid reader. She treasured being the church pianist at different churches in Colorado and Oklahoma for many years. She loved the preparation and joy that came with sharing her love of music with others. Her love for sewing was evident in the beautiful clothes and quilts she made throughout the years for her family and others she loved. She also enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for family and church gatherings and those in need. In her final days she was still planning for that day when she would have a new home with a kitchen so she could prepare a meal for her family in Idaho.
Colleen will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Her work on earth is done.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Foy Paul Salyer, father and mother Olin and Velma Castor, and Brother Gary Castor. She is survived by her sister, Portia Kummer and her family, brothers Duane and Ellis Castor and their families, sons Lonnie and Mike Salyer and their families, son Darvin Salyer, and daughter Stephanie Rutledge and her family.
The family would like to thank Paramount Parks Assisted Living in Eagle, Idaho, and St Luke’s Hospital Boise, Idaho for the incredible care they gave our mother in the final years and days of her life.
A Celebration of Colleen Salyer’s life will be held at Derby Hill Baptist Church, Loveland, Colorado on Friday, December 7, at 10:30am. Lunch will be provided following the service.
