Zola Mae (Haroldsen) HowardSeptember 9, 1928 ~ June 4, 2017 (age 88)
Our Sweet Zola Mae has passed today,
Yet she is not so far away.
For with each act of love you share,
Zola Mae is surely there.
So many friends, so many touched,
All she met, she loved so much.
Share her joy and do your part,
And Zola will always be in your heart.
Zola Mae Haroldsen Howard, 88, of Boise, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 in her home with family by her side. She was born on September 9, 1928 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Morgan Haroldsen and Eliza Elva Yeates Haroldsen. Zola was the second of 9 children.
Zola Mae grew up on a cattle ranch, and learned to work hard at a young age. She had an amazing work ethic & loved every job she had which included ushering at the Paramount Theater as a youth to working at MK Aviation as an adult.
She graduated from Idaho Falls High in 1946 and went on to BYU and Idaho State University. While on a double date at ISU, she was asked out by the other girl’s date. Even though she thought that was rude, she ended up dating Kay Howard & before long they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 5th, 1948.
They had their three children, Kay, Cheri, and Marty in Pocatello & moved to Idaho Falls in 1960. Zola was a wonderful & supportive mother who attended many of her children’s activities. She could pack up the car in 5 minutes for camping trips to Yellowstone Park. Zola said her happiest moments were when she & Kay were together with their children doing something fun.
Kay’s job took them to Boise in 1973. Zola made new friends and loved the Boise area. Kay and Zola surprised their family when they purchased a cabin in McCall. That quickly became a favorite place for family fun and weekend getaways. Zola loved the Blue Jays on the porch, the deer in the yard & picnics on the beach with her grandchildren.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. She enjoyed her membership in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Zola will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, how easily she scared, her dedication to her children, but especially for her way of making others feel important and loved.
Zola leaves behind 2 sisters, Eva Jean Jorgensen of Idaho Falls, ID, & Lillian Graham of Livermore, CA; 2 brothers, Morgan of Mackay, ID, & Dale of Moore, ID; 3 children, Kay Howard, Jr. (Tammy) of Meridian, ID, Cheri Howard Jenkins (Kip) of Troy, ID & Martin Howard (Karen) of Meridian, ID; 14 grandchildren & 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 12th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 5555 N. Locust Grove Rd. in Meridian. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 W. Hill Rd., Boise, ID following the funeral service.
We have felt overwhelmed by all the love & support given to our mother over this past year. We truly appreciate each of you who took time to show your kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, we invite everyone to write a note or send a card to a loved one or someone that may need a lift. That would make Zola smile.
Zola Mae has taught us many, many things throughout our life about love, giving and gratitude. The final lesson that she taught us in quiet reverence at the edge of her bed was, if you reach out and hold a dying person’s hand, you will feel closer to God.
Thanks Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, Aunt, and Sister and dear friend.
Love you Mom! See you soon . . . well hopefully not that soon. Bye for now.
