Norman Calvin SmithJune 11, 1933 ~ June 20, 2017 (age 84)
Norman Calvin Smith was born on June 11th, 1933 in Canton, Texas to Calvin and Vera Smith. Along with his four sisters Wanda, Phyllis, Theta, and Vera, the family moved to Selma, California around 1936.
Norman began working and training horses in his late teens. He spent 35 years working on cattle ranches starting as a working cowboy to eventually managing large ranches in Arizona, Nevada, and California.
In 1979, Norman met Lee Smith at the Indian Rock Ranch in Arizona. One year later they married and eventually made their way to Idaho.
In 1983, Norman began training horses professionally. Four years later he established a training facility in Star, ID and built a successful training business focused on training horses and teaching riders in western recreational riding.
In addition to training horses, Norman enjoyed reading, swimming in his pool and sitting on the porch looking out to the surrounding mountain ranges.
