Connie R. Richelieu

Connie R. Richelieu (Constance Wheatley) died peacefully at her home in Eagle, Idaho, on June 25, 2017.  Despite her hard-fought health battles in recent months, her quick sense of humor always remained with her, providing comfort and smiles to those who cared for her.

Connie was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 2, 1932.  She and her family moved to Sherman Oaks, California, when she was a young child.  A few years after graduating from the Brown School For Girls, Connie met Jack Richelieu, the love of her life, and they were married in 1953.  The union was blessed in 1954 by the birth of their first son, Jon, followed two years later by Jeff and four years later by Chris.  Connie’s number one priority was taking care of Jack and their three active, adorable and athletic sons, whom she loved and protected with the fierceness of a mama bear.  She is best remembered by the following quote: “I may not be perfect, but when I look at my sons, I know that I got something perfectly right.”

Connie and Jack lived most of their lives together in Anaheim, CA, before moving to Eagle, Idaho, in 2005.  Throughout her life, Connie was active in various community and charitable activities.  She worked for the Anaheim Angels, was Secretary of the Assistance League, Treasurer of Ebell and a member of the Anaheim High School Booster Club.  She was a member of the Republican Orange County Women’s Club and remained an avid supporter of the Republican Party throughout her life.  Connie supported many charitable organizations including St. Jude’s, The Red Cross, Boys Town, Wounded Warriors and the VFW.

The other loves of Connie’s life were her grandchildren.  She will be remembered sitting on the sidelines cheering them on at sporting events, musical recitals or school performances.  She made everyone smile with her creative gift wrapping and humorous greeting cards…she never missed recognizing a birthday, holiday or special event in the lives of those she loved.  Connie’s presence in her family’s lives will be greatly missed.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and her husband, Jack.  She is survived by her three sons, their wives and her grandchildren:  Jon & Leigh Richelieu of Boise, ID, parents of Katie Richelieu, Nick DeCaro & Tony DeCaro; Jeff & Robyn Richelieu of Yorba Linda, CA, parents of McCall & Cole; and Chris & Cathy Richelieu of Eagle, ID, parents of Cary, Casey & Caitlin.

A private memorial service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, July 10, 2017.  Memorial tributes may be made to the Veterans’ charity of your choice.
